| Today, the Space Nation celebrates its Unity Day. We first celebrated it 5 years ago, after Unity Day was made a national holiday in the Asgardian calendar by my Decree No. 2 of 09 Aries 0001 (6 March 2017). Last year, Asgardia turned 5 years old - more than halfway through the first decade of our history! During this period, a lot has been accomplished: the Asgardia-1 satellite has been launched, becoming the first territory of a nation off planet Earth in the history of humankind, the nationhood fundamentals have been established - the Constitution has been adopted, the independent branches of power - the Parliament, the Government, and the Court - have been created and functioning; a number of laws have been adopted, the process of formation of the Nation governance structure at the city, country, subcontinental and continental levels is underway. The economy is developing, with Asgardia's national digital currency, Solar, being put into circulation. New elections of the Head of Nation are scheduled to take place on 28 Libra 0006 (9 September 2022). Following the recommendation of the Supreme Space Council of 08 Capricornus 0005 (10 December 2021), I have decided to run for a second term. Today is our National Holiday, Unity Day, and I am announcing that as part of my election campaign, I have decided to make an additional investment in our country - to fund obtaining residency status for the 5,000 Asgardians who want to become residents of Asgardia for the coming year but do not have financial means to do so. Multiplying the number of residents will result in many more people directly participating in the political and economic life of Asgardia. They will be able to vote in elections and in the Referendum on amendments to the Constitution, to stand for public office, to participate in ministerial activities, and to come up with their civic initiatives. And, of course, they will all get residency benefits. | | |
